Landscape Management

Land not falling within a park or protected area still needs to be respected and used responsibly. Government and industry need to be held accountable and using best practices.

Did you know?

  • Only 12.5% of Alberta is currently conserved as Parks and Protected areas
  • Most of this land is in the mountains and Wood Buffalo National Park
  • Not all of the different ecosystem types are protected from industrial use
  • Industrial activity is still permitted in some ‘protected areas’ (see Parks)
  • 87.5% of Alberta’s landscapes are open to ever-increasing development

We depend on Alberta's land, water and a host of natural resources to fuel our economy and to meet our needs.  We must ensure that in using our natural resources, we do not abuse them.  Our children deserve a rich natural heritage
