Forests and Land Management

Land not falling within a park or protected area still needs to be respected and used responsibly. Government and industry need to be held accountable and encouraged to use best practices so as to manage impact upon the land.

Did you know?

  • Only 12.5% of Alberta is currently conserved as Parks and Protected areas
  • Most of this land is in the mountains and Wood Buffalo National Park
  • Not all of the different ecosystem types are protected from industrial use
  • Industrial activity is still permitted in some ‘protected areas’ (see Parks)
  • 87.5% of Alberta’s landscapes are open to ever-increasing development

We depend on Alberta's land, water and a host of natural resources to fuel our economy and to meet our needs.  We must ensure that in using our natural resources, we do not abuse them.  Our children deserve a rich natural heritage
