The Big Wild

The Big Wild is a conservation movement that makes it easy for you to stand up for wilderness protection campaigns.

The Big Wild is wilderness conservation movement founded by CPAWS and Mountain Equipment Coop.  The vision of The Big Wild is to protect at least half of Canada's public lands, and to ensure the other half is responsibly managed.  Why half?  Scientists believe we need at least 50% protection to ensure our ecosystems - and our planet - survive.

• Over 90% of Canada's land is in public hands
• Less than 10% of our land and 1% of our water is protected

  • The largest intact forest area in the world
  • 20% of the planet's fresh water
  • Over 500 endangered species
