Maintaining intact wilderness is key to protecting Alberta's biodiversity. CPAWS Northern Alberta’s wildlife work focuses on habitat for large wide-ranging species such as the Woodland Caribou and Grizzly Bears.

Conserving fully functioning ecosystems on large pieces of landscape is essential to enable these species to adapt to climate change and survive habitat fragmentation.

To sustain these populations, CPAWS advocates for:

  • Establishing protecting areas
  • Ensuring ecological connectivity
  • Minimizing habitat fragmentation
  • Managing access on Alberta's industrial land base
