CPAWS NAB welcomes a new Executive Director

(Edmonton, AB)  CPAWS Northern Alberta is pleased to announce its new Executive Director Kelly Sloan. Kelly brings a diverse skill-set to the organization and will play a key leadership role both within the chapter and in the Alberta conservation movement.

Kelly brings over 25-years experience working and volunteering in the non-profit sector including past Executive Director positions with YWCA Edmonton and the Mennonite Centre for Newcomers. Her work and volunteer life have included outdoor education and environmental programming, leadership in mountain recreational activities, electoral reform, human services, and social justice issues at local, regional, national, and international levels.   Kelly has a strong background in education; she received a Master of Education Administration from the University of Saskatchewan and has taught Grades 6 – 12 as well as university courses.  For several years, she ran her own consulting business, assisting many non-profit organizations and municipal government in areas such as organizational change, human resources, and strategic program development.   Most recently, Kelly worked for the federal government conducting staff training in financial management, evaluating and developing complex case files, writing regional e-scan information, and assessing funding applications from community agencies.

Kelly also brings with her a solid understanding of conservation issues and the ability to bring people together around key issues. She maintains her strong connection to the land by frequent visits to the Saskatchewan family farm as well as through summer and winter mountain wilderness activities in ski touring, mountaineering, and backpacking.

“The board is very excited to have Kelly take on this leadership role within CPAWS” says chapter board chair Amber Nicol. “We are looking forward to working with her to bring a stronger strategic focus to our conservation work in northern Alberta and to re-energize our membership. Kelly’s strong management skills and passion for Alberta’s wild spaces will ensure CPAWS remains a strong voice for conservation in the years to come”.
