For Teachers

CPAWS Northern Alberta’s education programs focus on connecting children with nature and creating lifelong stewards of the natural environment.

Boreal Education Program

CPAWS Northern Alberta offers boreal forest education to students and teachers on request in the Edmonton region. Our objective is to increase awareness of issues affecting the boreal forest and help teachers to address these issues in their classrooms.

Materials currently focus on Grade 6 curriculum but can be linked to other grades. Topics are:

  • Canadian Boreal Forest (plants, animals, ecosystem interactions)
  • Boreal Forest and Us (human use, positive/negative impacts)
  • Solutions: What Kids Can Do! (management, ways to conserve)

Other Programs

CPAWS Northern Alberta also offers presentations on request in these areas:

  • Endangered Species of Canada
  • Parks in Alberta

Teachers can use the Action Challenge Bingo tool to help students understand their relationship with the environment. From art to math to science these activities encompass many levels of difficulty, subjects of study, and categories of the environment.
