Wildlife at Risk

Help us protect these endangered species forever.

Ensuring the long term maintenance of Alberta's wilderness is the key to protecting Alberta's biodiversity and ensuring that we do not lose any of our majestic umbrella species such as the Woodland Caribou and Grizzly bear.

An umbrella species is a species with large area requirements for which protection of the species offers protection to other species that share the same habitat.

Our commitment to maintaining intact wilderness goes beyond the creation of protected areas.  For species such as Woodland Caribou and Grizzly Bear to adapt to climate change and survive habitat fragmentation we need to recognize the need to conserve fully functioning ecosystems on large pieces of landscape - of which protected areas are just one component.

Ensuring ecological connectivity, minimizing habitat fragmentation, and managing access on Alberta's industrial land base is critical if we want Alberta's large wide-ranging species to be sustained and thrive.
