Caribou calf and mom

Issue

As the 2009 Scientific Review for the Identification of Critical Habitat for Woodland Caribou, Boreal Population, in Canada concludes no caribou herds in Alberta are self-sustaining due to current range conditions (fragmented and too close a proximity of young forest caused by logging).

Where in Alberta is it?

All of Alberta where there is remaining caribou range.

Solution

What is needed is protection of caribou habitat from new industrial use, and rapid restoration of existing industrial footprint.  The Government of Alberta has made many commitments to  protection of caribou habitat in West Central Alberta, and the public shows strong support for habitat protection for wildlife  More information on public opinion, and the Alberta Caribou Committee recommends protection, More information on the ACC recommendations.
