This holiday season, we’re giving a classic holiday carol a CPAWS twist! “The 12 Days of Christmas” is a song that celebrates abundance, and we’ve tweaked it to reflect the many avenues available to our supporters to contribute to our mission. Without further ado, we present to you “The Twelve Days of Giving”.
Want to give this version a whirl while caroling? Find the printable version here.
Twas the night before CPAWS closed for the holiday season,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a grouse.
The office was quiet, the lights turned down low,
While the team rested and reflected on the wins they could show.
From big strides to small, the progress they made,
Fueled by supporters whose efforts don’t fade.
Their love for Alberta and landscapes so dear,
Inspires protection for many a year.
So here is a jingle, a festive display,
To show how your support lights up CPAWS’ way!

A postcard in a fir tree:
Campaign postcards, letters, email templates, and survey guides give Albertans a clear voice to speak out on key conservation issues. They’re an effective tool in amplifying our voices with policymakers and other organizations, but they come with printing costs. Help us keep these resources available by supporting CPAWS Northern Alberta today!
Two Bioblitzes:
Bioblitzes are a great example of how we can bring community together while fostering a culture of citizen science. During these events, members of the public and subject matter experts can come together, deepen relationships and form their own connection to the land. Though they are incredibly valuable in furthering a culture of conservation and for data collection, Bioblitzes are costly for non-profits to organize. They require an immense amount of logistics and resources to coordinate, apply for the appropriate permits, and report back on.
Three travel bursaries:
Alberta is vast, and our work spans from Red Deer North to the province’s borders. Travel bursaries help our team attend stakeholder meetings, engage in local initiatives, and represent conservation across Alberta.
Four wildlife photos:
It’s true that so many members of our community LOVE Alberta’s wildlife, some of which are harder to commonly capture on film or find high quality depictions online. Some of our most treasured gifts from supporters are photos that are thoughtfully donated to use for our wildlife campaigns. All the photos shared for our use are given credit to the photographer.
Five urgent response funds:
Conservation work demands flexibility. Our team needs to stay on top of current events, conservation disasters, and policy changes. By contributing to an urgent response fund, you give us the ability to respond swiftly to new conservation needs in Alberta with campaigns ready to launch.
Six donations matched:
Want to amplify the impact of a large donation? Talk with Carolyn from our fund development team about setting up a matched donation. It’s a powerful way to inspire others to give.
Seven FOIP requests:
FOIP (Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy) Requests can be a long, iterative process between our team and the party we are wanting detailed records from. Information from these requests is often how we can get to the bottom of why and how policy decision come to be. Filing these requests cost money and take time and they often need to be resubmitted. Your support helps us get the information that we relay back to the public. An example of valuable information from a FOIP, is the decisions behind changes to Elk Island National Park’s management plan which can be read here.
Eight hours of research:
To stay on top of conservation issues, our team dedicates hours to research— sourcing grants, news stories, emerging science, and government policy updates. Supporting CPAWS means supporting our researcher hours, which keeps us at the forefront of conservation.
Nine partners pledging:
Interested in making your corporate sustainability goals count? Join other corporate supporters by making an annual pledge. Your contribution helps protect biodiversity within Alberta, aligning your business with a meaningful impact.
Ten folks subscribing:
Can’t support financially right now but want to amplify our mission? Share our work with 10 friends and help keep the conversation going! The more people we can reach and engage with directly, the greater our impact. Be a part of our story by spreading the word.
Eleven maps a mapping:
GIS (Geographical Information Systems) enables us to make informed, data-driven decisions while also sharing the stories of Alberta’s evolving landscapes, inspiring change and hope for a sustainable future for everyone. Through GIS, we can create maps that tell a story with available (or missing) conservation data. The software, time, and expertise required to make meaningful maps (that are immensely valuable) are a big expense for our organization.
Twelve months of support:
Not able to make a large one-time donation? No problem! The best way to fit your giving into your lifestyle is by setting up a monthly donation, starting as low as $5 a month and scaling to whatever works with your budget. Monthly donations allow us to have a steady income throughout the year instead of a big influx at year-end. Monthly donors are often those that have the biggest lifetime impact on our organization. Visit the link to sign up or reach out to our fund development staff, Carolyn, with any questions.
