Shimmering Creeks and Rivers: The Waters that flow Through Alberta’s Biggest Conservation Topics

Nov 27, 2025 at 7:00 pm

Join CPAWS Northern Alberta for Shimmering Creeks and Rivers: a fundraiser event to celebrate Alberta’s waters and the life they sustain. We encourage you to come dressed in your interpretation of water: this can mean flowing blues, silks, sequins and shimmer! Door prizes will be awarded for the most creative ensemble.

The evening will include programming from the CPAWS staff, button-making, letter-writing and a collaborative art piece!

Programming
Water is at the heart of nearly all conservation issues and polling suggests that __ Albertans are concerned about the health of their waters. Throughout the evening the CPAWS team will have a few short 5-minute presentations focusing on the relationship between water and conservation in Alberta: tailings ponds, coal, forestry, species at risk and more!

Button-making
Have your hand at making your own button to pin on your favourite jacket, bag, hat or as a gift to a pal! We’ll have a few designs to choose from that best match your style so that you can show your love of Alberta’s waters loud and proud.

Dear Premier | Send a Greeting Card
‘Tis the season for tidings of joy! Pen a holiday card to the Alberta Premier highlighting your favourite memories spent on and near Alberta’s rivers, creeks and lakes and emphasize you want stronger action to ensure their protection. You bring the fire, we’ll get you started with some guidance on crafting your letter and provide the pens, the cards. We’ll even mail it out for you.

Collaborative Art Piece
Take part in completing an art piece celebrating Alberta’s waters, wildlife and landscapes! Not an artist? Not to worry. The piece has been started by local artist Coda Girvan, and we will add colour as a group. Paintbrushes and paint will be provided.

About the Artist: Coda Girvan is a Métis visual artist whose work focuses on hard-edge abstraction and breaking down organic matter into its most minimal form. For Coda, art is a way to connect with others and his Indigenous heritage while giving viewers the space to come to their own interpretations.

We are incredibly grateful to the Aviary hosting us in their space for this evening filled with conservation stories, art and community! Light snacks will be provided with beverages available for purchase at the bar.
